ATE PI Meeing 2019

Wed Oct 23, 2019 to Fri Oct 25, 2019

InnovATEBIO Website

Digital World Biology (DWBio) is attending the National Science Foundation - Advanced Technological Education (NSF-ATE) Principle Investigators (PI) meeting October 23-25, 2019. In addition to our booth at Wednesday evening's showcase, DWBio's Dr. Sandra Porter, along with Dr. Ruth Wrightsman, and Dr. Deborah Overath, will host a breakfast roundtable discussion on social media. And, Friday we'll join our InnovATEBIO colleagues as we introduce the new national center for biotechnology education: InnovATEBIO

Where can you find Digital World Biology at the ATE-PI conference?

Wednesday Evening Showcase Session 1: Booth #614

A Bridge to Bio-Link’s Future

Booth Description

Digital World Biology has created two websites that serve the biotechnology education community. Bio-Link.org is a database that describes biotechnology education programs, credentials, and partnerships between colleges and high schools. Biotech-Careers.org is a database of biotechnology companies, their business interests, and descriptions of biotechnology careers and education requirements. We will demonstrate how these resources can be used to tailor curriculum to local needs, connect with local industry, and help students find internships and jobs.

We'll also highlight the new website for the new national center for biotechnology education: InnovATEBIO.

We'll be at Table 20 bright and early Thursday morning (7:45 am) for:

It’s Just You and Not a Marketing Team: Social Media on a Shoestring.

Session Abstract

Are you looking for ways to use social media to highlight your project for your school, community, industry partners, and students? Do you have questions about using Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter for your project? This roundtable will offer examples of how current ATE projects are using these social media formats, and share the nuts and bolts of managing social media.

On Friday from 10:15 am to 12:30 pm, in the Congressional room, we'll join in the High Impact Workshop to talk about the new national center.

Shaping the Future of the Biotechnology Workforce

Workshop Abstract

The active and connected members of the biotechnology community have proposed and managed numerous ATE projects, two regional centers, and the Bio-Link National Center. A new national center, InnovATEBIO, has been funded, and one of its roles is listening to and mentoring this community. Please join the center’s leadership for a collaborative discussion about InnovATEBIO’s structure and goals, best practices for collaborating, supports you would like to see, and visions for our collective future.

About the conference

The American Association of Community Colleges, with the support of the National Science Foundation (NSF), will hold the 26th National ATE Principal Investigators’ Conference at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. The conference is by invitation only and will bring together approximately 850 NSF ATE grantees and their project partners to focus on the critical issues related to advanced technological education. Key people working on ATE projects across the country participate in the conference. Conference attendees represent community colleges, business and industry, secondary school systems, and 4-year colleges covering projects in a wide variety of areas, such as information technology, engineering technology, micro- and nanotechnologies, chemical technology, biotechnology, and others.

You might ask, how do I get invited. Win an NSF-ATE grant and you'll be on the next invitation list.
